A secret closed poll was conducted asking just over 10,000 people, both men and women, in the age groups of 30-60 if they wanted to make more money, in addition to their main job/profession/business.

Over 99% people said “YES”. Can you even believe that? The number of people who said “NO” to wanting to make more money was almost negligible.

The poll further asked these people if they were indeed making extra money like they wanted to. Affirmative responses dropped sharply to 12%, which was quite surprising.

But the third question was the most revealing. People were asked whether they were actively making genuine efforts to make more money; which meant taking actual action, as opposed to just thinking about it. The number of people who confirmed that they were indeed making efforts as per their aspirations was a mere 2%.

What does that tell us?

We do not work towards the life we wish we had!

We Do Not Do Enough To Work Towards Our Dreams

Most of us do not do what it will take to meet our aspirations.

This is the truth; whether we like it or not.

But there are some very valid causes for this inaction. Very genuine reasons, why we are unable to take the first steps, or when we do, we get disillusioned and quit soon enough.

Why Don’t We Get The Show On The Road?

Why do most of us want to make more money for our comforts and happiness, but do not take the steps that lead to achievement of our aims?

The answer lies in the fact that today, a lot of the avenues to earn money have dried up, owing to the COVID pandemic now, and general untrustworthiness in the environment.

The avenues that remain, seem to be saturated. A lot of them are also just plain scams!

Or is it that we have been content with wishing and hoping that something will happen on its own, and our lives will change?

My Story Is The Same As Everybody Elses

I am no different from you. Four years ago, I too realized that I totally needed to earn more money than I was earning. It’s not that I wasn’t earning enough for me and my family. But I wanted more; as simple as that.

And I wanted to gain freedom from corporate slavery. I was bored to death of my 9 AM to 6 PM job, and the drudgery of it all.

There had to be more to life than studying for the first 20 years, only to get stuck in a job for another 35 years. What a crazy predicament! Surely, someone had not designed the world right.

How was it that I had gotten stuck in the foretold debt trap, with loans and an inescapable job, while the top honchos lived extravagant lives? I didn’t even have a proper house, and folks I knew had beach-houses and summer retreats, yatchs and what not; and some even owned Cessnas. The biggest luxury I had permitted myself till then was to buy a Harley.

The more I thought of it, the more I realized that we, the common people were meant to do just that. Work work and work. We had been taught to accept our fate and that is why we were stuck in this quagmire.

I Had To Get Out Somehow

I began searching for ways to earn additional money. And I tried everything under the sun. From freelancing, to stocks, to futures & options, to lotteries, and fixed deposits, and tutoring, and conducting city tours, and pretty much a lot else.

For God’s sake, I even gave swimming lessons in my off hours for a month, walked 5 dogs, and mowed 3 neighbors lawns!

But then I gave up. It was no use. I didn’t have the time or energy to continue this long-term. I was sleep-deprived and was losing myself in this crazy need to earn more.

Basically, I did myself more harm than good, and the results were just not commensurate to the efforts that I was putting in.

I was trying to trade my time for more money.

I Started A Small Business

I am a reasonably good cook. And the culinary arts attract me. So I thought of opening a little Restaurant along with my sister. It took me an year to work out that the cost of renting a place, setting up an eatery, and running it, is a full-time job that takes huge investments to begin with. And when you have a business, you have to be there. Needless to say, it would have taken us 5 years to start earning any worthwhile profits, if we worked at it day and night. And that too if we invested all we had, and took a big loan too.

You Cannot Trade Your Time For Money

I have never ever met a billionaire up close. Of course I have bumped into them, and maybe attended their concerts and shows and talks. But never really been friends with them or known them, you know.

But yes, I do know a couple of millionaires. And these rich guys say three things with unfailing regularity. They say a lot of things, because they are so used to their own voices and opinions, but that’s not the point.

All the Gurus say them too:

Earn while you sleep? Now that’s interesting!

Really? How?

I had one income stream! God! No wonder I was where I was.

And Then The Pandemic Happened

I almost lost my one and only job. Can you believe it? My sole way of earning money. They downsized, and a lot of people had to leave. Luckily the Government stepped in and stopped further layings-off. So my job survived. Work from home was the new mantra.

Stuck at home with just a few hours of my job related work, and not much else to do, I got time to really think. And for the first time, I realized that I had never really thought of multiple sources of income seriously enough. I mean, a few thousand dollars in the bank, earning a measly interest, didn’t quite count as another income source.

I started spending time on my Mac. First, it was just entertainment; music and videos on YouTube, and reading interesting Blogs. Then I started noticing the sheer number of people reaching out to me through banners, and videos, and blogs, telling me that there was actual money to be made online.

They also promised:

• Little to no investment
• Flexible working hours
• Work from anywhere
• Work in your PJs
• Earn while you sleep
• Wake up to money in your account
• Take holidays when you want
• Work while you are on holiday from your laptop, if you want
• No irritating bosses

It’s called Entrepreneurship

Why Isn’t Everyone An Entrepreneur?

I couldn’t believe it! This seemed such a cool way to live your life, but then why wasn’t everyone doing it?

That’s because we have not been taught to. Our generation grew up without the internet, and were taught to believe that after you graduated, you went and took up a job. And that is what we all did.

The internet happened midway, but we were too busy to try and fully understand the unbelievable change it has brought in. Look around you. The world is filled with young millennials either being influencers on Social Media, or sitting at home, or vacationing in the Bahamas, earning money on the internet, while their parents are working in the factories, or are with multi national corporations.

We Need To Educate Ourselves

I took to spending long hours on the internet, and not before long, I had read up a load of possible ways to make money online.

I started with Shopify and built two e-commerce sites. They were really cool, but no sales came in. None at all. Six months later, I came to the conclusion that paid ads don’t work and organic or free traffic is essential. Paid ads work, but they cost huge money too.
